“We live in Indiana and enjoy all four seasons. That, unfortunately for some, includes winter. Until now, we haven’t provided a lot of winter-weather activities or outside events. That, however, is about to change." - Mayor Jim Brainard, State of the City 2016
Exciting news was made this week. Ice skating is coming to Carmel! Mayor Brainard unveiled the $5 million renovation of Center Green in Carmel on Tuesday that will accommodate an outdoor ice-skating rink in the winter, along with Christkindle Market where people can shop for holiday crafts and buy refreshments during the holiday season.
The Mayor wrapped up this announcement by saying, "The venue will be beautifully situated in Center Green where the backdrops currently include the Palladium, the Tarkington Theater building and City Center. Many of you might have visited (ice-skating) areas such as this in Chicago or New York City. They become gathering places through the winter months and add so much vibrancy to a time of year with many hours of darkness.”
The project, which the city hopes to complete by the start of winter 2017, will be an exciting and fun meeting place for families in and around Carmel!
