Carmel Symphony Orchestra welcomes special guest conductor

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is pleased to announce that lauded conductor Pablo Devigo-Vázquez will be joining the symphony as Indiana University Conducting Fellow for the 2019-2020 season.

A native of Castro Caldelas, Spain, Devigo-Vázquez has had a wide interdisciplinary musical training. He is a graduate in both composition and conducting from Spain’s Conservatorio Superior de Música del Principado de Asturias and was recognized in 2015 with a Fulbright Scholarship to continue his conducting studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Devigo-Vázquez is currently pursuing his doctorate at Indiana University with Maestro Arthur Fagen and minoring in piano performance with Émile Naoumoff. Last summer, he was the recipient of the Helen F. Whitaker Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival.

“We are excited to have Pablo join us for our upcoming season,” says CSO Music Director Janna Hymes. “After observing the advanced conducting class at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, known for its outstanding music school, Pablo was the conductor who stood out as the best person to join the CSO team. He connected very well with the musicians and was an inspiring and solid conductor. We welcome Pablo to Carmel.”

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra’s season, titled Musical Journeys with Janna, opens on October 12 with “From Paris to Russia with Love” featuring compositions by Berlioz, Ravel, Khachaturian and Tchaikovsky. The six-concert Masterworks Series will be complimented this year by the Special Events Pops Series and ever popular Symphony on the Go concerts.
