Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis: Big Band Holidays

Drewry Simmons Vornehm Jazz Series

Led by jazz master Wynton Marsalis, the celebrated ensemble marks the season with Big Band Holidays, featuring soulful versions of classics like “Jingle Bells,” “Joy to the World” and “Brazilian Sleigh Ride.” This year’s holiday tour includes vocals by baritone Denzal Sinclaire and teenage phenomenon Alexis Morrast, first-place winner of the nationally broadcast Showtime at the Apollo.

 

 

An Evening with Rita Moreno

Hoosier Village Songbook Series

Few entertainers compare with this winner of the Oscar, the Tony, two Emmys and a Grammy Award. Debuting on Broadway at age 13, Rita Moreno went on to appear in more than 40 feature films and countless TV shows, most recently the acclaimed reboot of One Day at a Time on Netflix. Expect standards from the American Songbook and stories from Moreno’s stellar career.

 

Brett Wiscons and Sarah Grain & the Billions of Stars

Two Indiana-based singer-songwriters join forces for a co-headlining performance, part of the Center’s new initiative to present notable regional artists in a relaxed and intimate setting. Wiscons tours nationally and has shared stages with acts including Jon Bon Jovi, Darius Rucker, Zac Brown Band, Collective Soul, LeAnn Rimes and Hootie & the Blowfish. Grain and her band, the Billions of Stars, have been featured on WFYI-FM’s Small Studio Sessions and have performed their blend of folk, rock, jazz, rich vocal harmonies and Latin rhythms at leading Indianapolis venues and events including the Virginia Avenue Folk Fest, Feast of Lanterns, Indy Parks’ Summer Concert Series and the Earth Day Indiana Festival.

 

 

Cantus: Three Tales of Christmas

Ascension St. Vincent Holiday Series

The Minneapolis-based men’s vocal ensemble Cantus is known for innovative performances of music spanning from the Renaissance to the 21st century. In Three Tales of Christmas, the group combines familiar carols, new holiday classics and narrated passages from such classic holiday tales as A Christmas Carol, Gift of the Magi and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

 

 

Postmodern Jukebox: A Very Postmodern Christmas

Ascension St. Vincent Holiday Series

Best known for its viral YouTube videos that reinterpret modern pop hits in various vintage genres, Postmodern Jukebox is a rotating musical collective founded in 2011 by arranger and pianist Scott Bradlee. Expect your favorite holiday tunes to get the PMJ treatment when this high-energy revue returns to the Center.

 

 

Dave Koz & Friends Christmas Tour 2019

Ascension St. Vincent Holiday Series

A popular annual tradition at the Center, Dave Koz’s holiday concerts feature stellar special guests performing fresh, lively arrangements of seasonal favorites for the entire family. The saxophonist and bandleader has earned nine Grammy nominations and sent nine albums to the top of Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. Joining Koz this year will be singer-songwriters Jonathan Butler and Melissa Manchester, saxophonist Michael Lington and special guest Chris Walker.
