Carmel Christkindlmarkt

November 16, 2019

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is bringing the old world charm of Christmas in Germany to beautiful Carmel, Indiana. The Christmas market tradition stretches back to Saxony, Germany during the middle ages. Over the centuries, the joys of the traditional Christmas markets spread from town to town, and around the world.

Christkindlmarkt is the German name for the traditional Christmas market, literally translated as "Christ child market." These markets feature a delightful blend of holiday food, drinks, gifts, and decorations. Various regions of Germany became well-known for their hand-crafted Christmas decorations, wood-working, artwork, or textiles. Today, millions of people enjoy Germany's Christmas markets each year.

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt runs from November 16 to December 24, 2019. There is ice skating, a wide variety of food and drink vendors, and various gift, toy and collectable booths. Check out the entire list of booths and a schedule of events on the Christkindlmarkt website.

Carmel Christkindlmarkt, Inc.  partnered with Steinbach  in 2018 to bring this beautiful installation to Carmel for the Christkindlmarkt. Steinbach is a celebrated German company that is well known for their world-famous nutcrackers and handmade wooden Christmas products, which are also featured at the market.

They saw the great potential of the Carmel Christkindlmarkt, and wanted to be part of its continued success. This partnership will ensure that Steinbach will be adding to the cultural authenticity of the Christkindlmarkt for many years, and will also ensure that this iconic German Glühwein Pyramide will be a fixture of our city's Christmas traditions for generations to come.

Explore delicious flavors of mulled wine, German beers and delicious holiday drinks for the whole family! Get the complete list available here.

New for 2019 is the Kulturecke, or German history museum. Thanks to a partnership between the Christkindlmarkt and the Indiana German Heritage Society and the Indiana Historical Society,, visitors can interact and learn about some fun German Holiday traditions.

The Christkindlmarkt, 10 Center Green, will be open from noon to 9 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. It will be closed Thanksgiving Day, with special hours December 23 and 24.
