Community leaders raise awareness for Meals on Wheels
March for Meals is a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and the homebound and vulnerable seniors who rely on its vital safety net. From March 20-24, Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County will be enlisting community leaders of Hamilton County to deliver meals and raise awareness for the importance of Meals on Wheels during Community Champions Week. This week-long event builds support that will enable Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County to deliver nutritious meals and friendly visits to residents all year long.
Since 2002, Meals on Wheels America has led the annual awareness campaign in an effort to fill the gap between the seniors served and those in need. A rapidly aging population combined with declining public and private resources, and rising food, transportation and operational costs continues to increase demand for the service.
Although Hamilton County is a community well known for its high standard of living, there are many residents who are homebound or otherwise unable to acquire their daily meals. Regardless of income or age, Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County and its dedicated volunteers deliver healthy meals to Hamilton County residents every day. The meals — and the daily visits — help them to remain living independently in their own homes.
During March for Meals Community Champions Week, prominent leaders of Hamilton County ride along with Meals on Wheels board members to deliver meals to homebound residents.
