Museum of Miniature Houses celebrates 25 years

The Museum of Miniature Houses proudly announces that in 2018 it will have been open for 25 years. Two special events are planned to celebrate the anniversary. The first is the Founders' Exhibit, which will open Friday, Sept. 14 and run through the end of the year. On display will be Nancy Lesh's exact replica of the house in which she grew up in the 1940s, Suzanne Landshof's Victoria's Choice (her first completed house), and Suzie Moffett's Wedding House, a saltbox house decked out for a wedding reception. There will also be other pieces made by the founders that are not usually on display.

Second is a 25th Anniversary Roundtable Discussion with museum founders Suzie Moffett and Suzanne Landshof on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

The Museum of Miniature Houses was founded by three Indiana artisans in order to preserve and display scale miniatures and antique dollhouses, and to introduce this art form to others. The vision of these three women was to ensure that collections of quality miniature room settings, houses, and individual pieces would not be lost to future generations.

More than 100,000 visitors have come to the museum since it has been open. Each year visitors include Hoosiers, residents from more than 40 other states, and people who live in 20 different countries.

"When we opened our doors in 1993, Carmel was a small town of 32,000 people but we chose a prime location on Main Street because we believed Carmel was going to grow," explains Suzie Moffett, President of the Board and Co-Founder of the Museum of Miniature Houses. "Now Carmel has more than 90,000 residents, our collection requires five offsite storage areas to house, and we organize nearly 40 events each year related to our collection of miniatures."

Throughout this year, visit the museum's website and check out the various events such as Breyer Fun Day where you can enjoy the horses in the permanent collection and design your own Breyer Horse. Celebrations of Creativity and Craftsmanship provides an opportunity to see various artists who are brought in for an afternoon of learning and entertainment.

The Museum of Miniature Houses is a museum of fine art in miniature.

The museum’s collection contains thousands of miniatures including room boxes, miniature houses, and exquisite individual items. Also included are collections that may be tiny or full size. More information can be found at
