City of Carmel named the Best Place to Raise a Child in America

The City of Carmel has been named the Best Place to Raise a Child in America by Safewise.com, based on an analysis of numbers and statistics from the FBI and other sources that tell the story of how communities rank in matters of safety, graduation rates, sex offender stats, violent crimes and property crimes.

Carmel scored the highest of any city in America, beating out Newton, MA., and Johns Creek, GA, which rounded out the top three. Fishers, IN, came in fourth place.

“We are thrilled to once again be mentioned as one of the best places to live in America, a topic that we work hard to achieve on a number of levels. Our law enforcement agencies and the City as a whole, works very hard to make sure Carmel is a great place to raise a family. This most recent survey is proof that we are on the right track and we continue to be the best place to live in America … period,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.

As parents, there’s nothing more important than keeping children safe. From crime levels to quality schools, living in a community that shares your priorities is important, according to the study. The good news is that no matter where you live in America, your children probably enjoy lower crime levels than you did growing up. Statistics from the FBI show that violent crime in the United States has fallen 49% since 1993, and property crime has also decreased 50% during the same period.

But what makes a community safe is about more than the prevalence of crime. As researchers dug deep into the data to find the safest cities to raise children, they also considered factors like graduation rates and the number of sex offenders per capita. Information like this can tell not only about threats within the community but also how well-positioned these cities are to help kids thrive.
